For Halloween We Present ‘A Prisoner of This Tower’

For this year’s Halloween poem I have chosen C.S. Hughes’ A Prisoner of This Tower, for the eerie connection between the verse and those who perished in the Tower of London who have been on my mind of late.

    I’m glad to see this blog active again and hope everyone is well. I know Hallowe’en has been and gone for 2019 but the above poem is apt for that time of year.

    I don’t think I’ll watch “His Dark Materials” – I heard something on the radio once that I THINK was an adaptation of a Philip Pullman story and it freaked me out. I couldn’t even stand to hear other people discussing Dennis Wheatley novels they’d read when I was younger (not the black magic ones anyway though I did dip into some of his “historical” ones back in the day). I’m not saying PP isn’t a good writer – just that his work isn’t for me.

      Hi U, good to see you. His Dark Materials is not a horror story, it’s fantasy. Pullman has written various other stories but I’ve not read any besides His Dark Materials and the companion books.
