A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...is of course the iconic opening line from the equally iconic scrolling title sequence from George Lucas’s 1977 film, Star Wars. How many times can you say iconic to describe the distinctive elements of one film that have resonated throughout our collective cultural consciousness for the past 40 years?
X-wings, lightsabers, desert speeders, heavy mechanical breathing, metal bikinis, golden droids, furry heroes wearing bandoliers, plaited ear muffs, white plastic armour, little green guy with a peculiar speech aphasia…the list just goes on and on. Rather like the scrolling titles.
To honour that legacy, Google has built a little custom search Easter Egg. Just enter the iconic phrase in the address bar and hit return for an amusing and indeed iconic surprise.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…of course it won’t work if you use Bing, Ask Jeeves, Lycos, Gigablast or DuckDuckGo. I guess they are sort of like rebel planets, and Google is the Empire. I really wish DuckDuckGo had won the search engine wars.
