In news we have all been waiting for, the BBC announced yesterday that the Daleks will return for the 50th Anniversary. Steven Moffat said

“The Doctor once said that you can judge a man by the quality of his enemies, so it’s fitting that for this very special episode, he should be facing the greatest enemies of all.”

daleks_50th_3The 50th Anniversary so far:

At the conclusion of the ripping Series Seven finale John Hurt was revealed as “The Doctor”, with Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor saying cryptically “He’s the one who broke the promise“.

John Hurt will star alongside Matt Smith and Tenth Doctor David Tennant in a triptych of Doctors, with companions Clara Oswald (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and Rose (Billie Piper). The shape-shifting Zygons will make their first appearance since Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor in 1975. We can perhaps expect the appearance of some earlier incarnations of the Doctor as we saw  some new digital effects in The Name of the Doctor, including the brilliant opening scene with William Hartnell.

The 50th Anniversary marks the second last appearance of Matt Smith. We will bid farewell to the Eleventh Doctor in the 2013 Christmas Special.
