The 12th Doctor is set to be revealed in a television special on Sunday the 4th of August.

The half hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans. Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews about one of the biggest roles in TV and set out just what it takes to be the Doctor.

I am probably the only person on the planet who thinks the BBC has no concept of surprise. We knew six months in advance that Matt Smith was leaving, we know the episode he’ll be regenerating in and know we’ll know who is playing the 12th Doctor. At least the bookies in the UK will be busy this weekend.

For Aussies, Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor will air on ABC1 on Monday at 4am Eastern.
