On George RR Martin’s recent tour of France he sat down with Le Mouv for a great interview about his writing. On the historical influences in his writing George said “I like the freedom of being able to draw on history and use it as a building block, but to rearrange it and change it and produce something that is unpredictable.” He discussed the use of magic, J.R.R. Tolkien, how Lord of the Rings is relatively “low-magic” and how George is also in the “low-magic” camp, creating realistic characters, if he knows the ending to his story, and more.
