Tom Hardy will play Sir Elton John in a biopic of the singer’s life called Rocketman, which will follow Elton John’s journey from childhood piano prodigy to international superstar. Shooting will begin in late 2014, and Sir Elton John is is an executive producer on the project. The screenplay has been penned by Lee Hall, who was nominated for an Oscar for Billy Elliot, and recently worked on the film adaptation of War Horse.
Hardy is being touted as an unconventional choice, yet no-one could accuse Hardy of not having range. The talented actor, who has quite a knack for making himself unrecognisable, portrayed the masked Bane in The Dark Knight Rises after stacking on weight for the role. He has starred in films such as Bronson, Inception, Lawless, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and will take the lead role as Mad Max in the fourth instalment of George Miller’s franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road.
