Disney has released the debut teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG. The trailer features Sophie, played by newcomer Ruby Barnhill, explaining the rules of the Witching Hour, and we get our first glimpse of Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall) in the lead as the Big Friendly Giant.

Sophie and the BFG must team up to save the world from the human-gobbling giants Bloodbottler and Fleshlumpeater, played by comedians Bill Hader and Jemaine Clement. Penelope Wilton (Doctor Who, Downton Abbey) plays Queen Victoria and Rebecca Hall (Parade’s End, Transcendence) plays her maid Mary.

Steven Spielberg says, “It’s a story about friendship, it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends, and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems.”

The BFG will hit cinemas in July.
