​The official Rogue One synopsis:

Following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters comes together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s rule.

Jyn Erso

Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso. Rumours are already flying that Jyn may be Rey’s mother.

Diego Luna


Diego Luna stars as the obligatory handsome rebel. Rumour has it he may be playing Biggs Starlighter, Luke Skywalker’s best friend from Episode IV. Others suggest he is playing a new character named Cassein Willix.

Donnie Yen

Donnie Yen’s character will be fighting alongside the rebels. He was seen taking out Storm Troopers in the teaser trailer.

…and rather more sinister looking Storm Troopers.

Imperial Walkers


The AT-AT, or Imperial Walkers, back-dating their first appearance (they were originally first seen in Episode V).

Ben Mendelsohn


Ben Mendelsohn plays the lead Imperial villain in Rogue One.There are rumours his character may be a younger version of Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin.

Jiang Wen


Jiang Wen will be fighting with the rebels, his character has been described as a ‘weapons enthusiast’.

Forest Whitaker

Forest’s character is rumoured to be a bounty-hunter type but in the trailer he also seems to be playing a mentor to the rebels.

Mon Mothma!


The leader of the Rebel Alliance Mon Mothma is played by Genevieve O’Reilly, who first played the character in Revenge of the Sith.



Jyn is deep undercover on the Death Star. Forest Whitaker’s character asks her “If you continue to fight, what will you become?”.
