Our beloved Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith has joined the cast of horror-comedy Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Matt will portray Mr Collins, alongside his girlfriend Lily James (Downton Abbey) who is playing Elizabeth Bennet in the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel. The film will also star Sam Riley (Control, Byzantium) as Darcy, Jack Huston (American Hustle, Boardwalk Empire) as Wickham, Douglas Booth (Pillars of the Earth, Romeo and Juliet) as Bingley and Bella Heathcoate (Dark Shadows, Not Fade Away) as ‘Elizabeth’s sister’, presumably Jane.

Seth Grahame-Smith is also responsible for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He credits Jane Austen as the co-author on his parody, which sees our heroine Lizzy  determined to wipe out the zombies menacing the English countryside, only to become distracted by the arrival of Darcy.

Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry?

After almost five years of languishing in production, originally optioned by Natalie Portman who was also planning on starring, filming will begin next week. Now who is looking forward to seeing Matt Smith play Mr. Collins, complete with zombies?
