David Lynch has confirmed Kyle MacLachlan will reprise his role as Special Agent Dale Cooper in the new series of Twin Peaks.

The new nine-episode series will go into production this year. Twin Peaks is set to air in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of the final instalment. Co-creator Mark Frost is co-writing and producing the series with David Lynch, who will direct each episode.

“I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks,” MacLachlan said. “May the forest be with you.”
