Broadchurch and US remake Gracepoint creator Chris Chibnall has popped a sneaky reference to Doctor Who companions into an episode of  Gracepoint.

David Tenannt’s Detective Emmett Carver’s notes in relation to the case of murdered youngster Danny Solano reveal a tribute to the Tenth Doctor’s three companions Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).

Chibnall, who used to write for Doctor Who and Torchwood, has left some decidely Whovian clues in the phone messages. A Martha Jones “has information about Sally Sparrow”, “D. Noble” has “information regarding the library” and “R. Tyler” said “something regarding a wolf?”.

Gracepoint has just been cancelled after its first season by Fox, although there is hope that it will be picked elsewhere for another season. ITV has yet to confirm if Broadchurch will return for Season 3.
