Bryan Singer, who directed the first and last two films in the X-Men franchise, announced on Twitter, that a new X-Men film Apocalypse will follow Days of Future Past in 2016. Fox has confirmed a release date of 27 May 2016. Apocalypse will be the eighth film in the X-men series.

The new movie will focus on Apocalypse, an ancient Egyptian villain who appears in the Marvel comics. First appearing in X-Factor #5  in May 1986, Apocalypse has appeared in a number of X-Men titles including spin-offs and several limited series.

Days of Future Past will be released on 23 May 2014.
