Downton Abbey has been causing a lot of laughs this week thanks to a water bottle accidentally making its way into a promotional picture for series five, which can be seen behind Lady Edith.

The cast and crew decided to put the attention to good use by all posing with a water bottle to promote the work of WaterAid, an international charity that works in 27 countries worldwide, transforming millions of lives every year with clean water, safe toilets and hygiene education.

“After seeing the reaction this picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters. They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity WaterAid,” an ITV spokesperson explained.

Barbara Frost, Chief Executive of WaterAid adds, “It brought a really big smile to my face when the cast of Downton Abbey said they wanted to support WaterAid’s work. How fantastic that the attention created over one water bottle ends up benefiting some of the world’s poorest communities through access to safe, clean water today.”
