Disney has announced that production on an animated series of Tangled has commenced. The 2010 animated film Tangled was loosely based on the fairytale Rapunzel. The new series will take place between the end of Tangled and the beginning of Tangled Ever After, a short film set on Rapunzel and Flynn’s wedding day. The series will follow Rapunzel’s new life in Corona, where she has been reunited with her parents. The press releases states:

“Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King who, after missing out on Rapunzel’s youth, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman.”

Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will reprise their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn. Rapunzel’s chameleon Pascal, Maximus the horse,and the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs will return. A new main character, Cassandra, will be introduced as Rapunzel’s hand-maiden and friend.

The series is slated for a 2017 release on the Disney Channel.
