Disney has announced that the live-action 3D remake of Mulan is set for a 2018 release, and the worldwide search for the lead Chinese actress is on. Disney purchased the spec written by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin in 2015, and Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, and the Avatar sequel) are now working on the script.

A Disney classic, Mulan is based on the ancient Chinese legend of female warrior Hua Mulan, a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can take her father’s place in the army and go to war. Despite the usual attempts to slate the film’s heroine, the animated film earned $304M worldwide at the box office. 2018 will mark the 20th anniversary of the animated film, so it will be a perfect time for a re-release of Mulan to coincide with the live-action film.
