Penguin Books is re-issuing five books that inspired J.R.R Tolkien’s works, including The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Professor Tolkien, a philologist, was always inspired by Anglo-Saxon literature, poetry and Germanic and Celtic mythology. Penguin has chosen five books for the series, Legends from the Ancient North,  which will include Beowulf, The Saga of the Volsungs, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Elder Edda and The Wanderer: Elegies, Epics, Riddles. Artist Petra Borner designed the stunning new covers.

About The Author

Olga Hughes is currently pre-occupied with fairy tales, fantasy, misanthropy, medieval history and the long eighteenth century. She has a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Victorian College of the Arts and is currently majoring in Literature and History at Deakin.
